
A mid conference field day will be an important feature of WCCA/FSD, providing an opportunity for conference participants to mix with leading Australian farmers, while observing demonstrations of conservation agriculture technology. The field day will be held at the University of Queensland Gatton campus from 9.30am - 5.00pm on Wednesday 28th September 2011, concluding with the congress dinner in the multi-purpose hall. The overall field day theme will be the way science and practice come together to support more sustainable agriculture and it will include field demonstrations of the technology and science supporting highly productive, sustainable agriculture.
The field aspects will include demonstration of current and innovative conservation agriculture related farm technology, including:
- No till seeders for both high tech and low resource environments; see management technology - sensor sprayers; weed management at harvest; managing herbicide tolerance.
- Precise guidance and interrow seeding/weed/residue management technology. Site-specific management in CA. Crop condition sensing - satellite, UAV and proximal sensor applications to crop to crop and soil management.
- Soil technology - soil condition monitoring; moisture, infiltration, compaction; soil pit.
- The field day will also feature a number of workshops and presentations on applied topics by Congress participants, including simulation monitoring applications in farming system design and crop management.
Organizations are invited to exhibit and demonstrate their Conservation Agriculture - related equipment and technology at the WCCA/FSD field day, to an audience of >500 international visitors, and Australian farmers. Demonstration areas (for small units only), exhibition stands and other requirements will be allotted in order of receipt of bookings. Participation cost is $300/ 6m frontage plot, negotiable for small companies demonstrating innovative equipment.
