Workshop proposal submissions are invited for the 5th World Congress on Conservation Agriculture incorporating 3rd Farming System Design Conference.

In structuring the Congress, the committee wanted to maximise the opportunities for productive interaction between delegates by promoting debate on topics of importance to the sustainability of food production. Workshops provide a valuable forum for useful interaction, so the Congress structure includes a number of workshop opportunities.

A number of workshop topics have already been proposed. The committee would now like to invite further workshop proposals from groups or individuals wishing to lead discussions.

Proposals should be submitted by 28 February 2011.

The following should be included in the proposal.

  • Concise Title: maximum 10 words
  • Leadership: leader and major contributors
  • Objective: what outcomes are expected or possible?
  • Plan: how will this be achieved? (Presentations, facilitated discussion, open debate?)
  • Numbers: your estimate of the percentage of delegates vitally interested in this topic.
  • Justification: brief explanation of topic significance, referring, for instance to sustainability, economic, social, security or policy implications, and preferably referenced.

Most workshops will be scheduled for one hour parallel sessions, but other formats are possible. Important topics with assured support could, for instance be scheduled for the day preceding or following the main Congress. All workshop leaders will be expected to submit a brief oral report to the Congress and a more detailed report for subsequent compilation and e-mail distribution to delegates.
